The White Mountains Revisited

Domestic travel options are more popular than ever these days, with the increased risk for Americans traveling abroad coupled with the high price of international travel.

The White Mountains of New Hampshire, home to Mount Washington and innumerable scenes of natural beauty, are a spectacular destination at any time of year. Safe and affordable, a vacation in the White Mountains is one that your whole family is sure to cherish forever!

I was fortunate enough to visit during the month of October, and I saw some of the most unbelievably vibrant Fall foliage of my life. The color of the trees and mountains was simply extraordinary.

The White Mountains are famed for their hiking opportunities, as well as world-renowned skiing, fishing, and night life. My favorite hiking spot was by the Swift River on the Kancamagus Highway near Conway. During the summer, people of all ages slide down the smooth rocks like water slides, or bask in the numerous waterfalls and pools.

There was also a nice presentation on the Fall and Winter ecology of the North Woods by an ecologist named Chris Lewey, owner of RAVEN Interpretive Programs (ravenwildlife.com). The presentation was excellent, informative and humorous, and not to be missed should you ever get the chance to travel to the White Mountains of New Hampshire!

About three hours north of Boston, the White Mountains have something for everyone and I highly recommend a visit.
